Metrics and KPIs

Metric Names and Standard Units

Denowatts uses a Metrics Library to list and define all metrics utilized with the portal and API. The metrics library includes a Full Name, Description, Standard Measurement Unit, Tags, Applicable Device Types, and the Database Name. If the Metric is used by third-party software or databases, Denowatts provides a mapped Translation to the most appropriate name. If the Metric name is a Key Performance Indicator (KPI), the Denowatts Metrics Library displays the mathematical expression.

The Denowatts Metrics database is available at portal.denowatts.com/metrics (the Metrics Dictionary). The Database Name is shown in the Denowatts Name column, and applicable Device Types in the Devices column. A company-specific Translation can be selected in the last column.

For the definitions of the Energy Performance Index (EPI), Baseline Energy Performance Index (BEPI), and Energy Availability, see Key Performance Indices.

Metric Database Descriptor Parts

Each Metric Database Name is a synthesis of Descriptor Parts formed using camelCase convention. The primary measurement appears first, preceded by major and minor parts. For example:

Full Metric NameDatabase NameDescriptor Parts
Front Reference IrradianceirrPoaRefIrr, POA, and Ref
Front Global IrradianceirrPoaGlobIrr, POA, and Glob
Cell TemperaturetempCellTemp and Cell
Back of Module TemperaturetempBomTemp and Bom

Database Names are the metric identifiers used by the Denowatts API.

Universal Fault Codes

Universal Fault Codes (UFCs) are a list of common fault code translations that Denowatts manages. Fault codes provided by manufacturers for their equipment are variously named and interpreted. Denowatts created a UFC system to group manufacturer fault codes with similar meanings for common analytics and reporting.

Universal Faults are assigned to manufacturer fault codes when a Modbus template is configured (Template in Settings, Admin users).
